What we do

What we do?

In close collaboration with key justice actors, the JuSTICE Project ultimately aims to advance effective justice transformation by improving access to justice, institutional capacity, and transparent judicial processes in Lao PDR.

Focus

The is dedicated to supporting three core focus areas:

Strengthening Justice Institution

As part of its commitment to advancing equitable access to justice, the JuSTICE Project works closely with key justice sector institutions—including the Ministry of Justice (MOJ), the Office of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor (OSPP), the People’s Supreme Court (PSC), and the Lao Bar Association (LBA)—to strengthen their roles and services to serve the public more effectively. This initiative focuses on reducing structural and procedural barriers by modernizing institutional frameworks, streamlining case management systems, and promoting user-friendly legal services. Through these efforts, the Project supports the creation of a more transparent, efficient, and accessible justice system that better responds to the needs of all communities in Lao PDR.

Enhancing Capacity Building

A key and strongly driven initiative of the JuSTICE project is the strengthening of legal education institutions, recognizing that building the capacity of future justice professionals is fundamental to sustainable justice transformation. The Project takes a proactive role in working with national training institutions to enhance the quality and effectiveness of legal education for trainee judges, prosecutors, and lawyers. Through modern, practice-oriented, and context-specific training methodologies, the JuSTICE Project ensures that legal professionals are equipped with legal knowledge, critical thinking, and practical skills. This initiative plays a vital role in building a more competent, responsive, and accountable justice sector that can deliver higher-quality services to the people of Lao PDR.

Promoting Environmental and Climate Justice

In a close collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) together with other key partners, the JuSTICE Project focuses on building capacity and raising awareness to ensure effective environmental law enforcement in Lao PDR. In the complementary with the direct enforcement, the JuSTICE Project efforts center on empowering justice actors at national and local levels, along with communities, to understand, contextualize, apply and enforce environmental laws in the Laos. The Project advocates for environmental justice across civil society organizations, administrative bodies, and the private sector, and conduct legal research to foster greater awareness and engagement with the local environmental issues.
